Red Sox vs. A’s MLB Free Pick
OAKLAND, CA (ATS Consultants) – Jon Lester will look to finish his shaky first half on a high note when the Red Sox visit the A’s tonight at 10:05PM ET.
ODDS: According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the A’s are -127 money line favorites over the Red Sox, who are +117 on the ML. The total, meanwhile, is currently sitting at 8 runs with Lester set to face A.J. Griffin in the pitching matchup.
LINE MOVEMENT: The A’s opened as -130 money line favorites but their odds have dropped to -127, while the Red Sox’ odds have gone from +120 down to +117. Boston enters play with a 58-37 overall record and is 27-21 on the road this year, while Oakland is 54-39 overall and 28-15 at home.
PUBLIC BETTING: Of the current wagers placed on tonight’s game, 56% of the betting public currently favors Boston. This information is subject to change, however, so make sure you click on the link provided for the most updated numbers.
MLB FREE PICK: Take Oakland. According to latest MLB trends, Boston is 1-5 in Lester’s last six road starts, 2-9 last 11 in series and 8-24 last 32 meetings in Oakland. The Athletics are 12-5 last 17 vs. a left-handed starts, 10-1 last 11 home starts with the total set at 7.0-8.5, 14-3 in Griffin’s last 17 home starts and 38-13 last 51 home games with the total set at 7.0-8.5.
Both of these teams have had great first halves. The problem for Boston is that they have some question marks at the front of their starting rotation. It starts with lefty Jon Lester (8-5, 4.60 ERA), who has been terrible for the Red Sox in the last two months. In his last start against Seattle, he allowed five runs in five innings with 11 hits and walks. That’s been the norm from him lately as he’s allowed less than three runs just once in his last 10 starts. That was against one of the worst hitting teams in baseball on July 3 against San Diego. Another issue for Lester is that teams are bashing his cutter and for some reason, he keeps throwing it. Oakland sends out A.J. Griffin (7-6, 3.94 ERA), who has pitched well, in three of his last four starts. He gave up just two runs against Kansas City on July 7 against the Royals after a bad start against the Cubs.
