Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made the Indians +10000 long shots to win the 2011 World Series and +3000 to win the AL Central. The Tribe also have an over/under win total of 71.5 games for this season.
Biggest Offseason Addition: Take your pick between Orlando Cabrera, Austin Kearns, Travis Buck and Adam Everett. Both Cabrera and Kearns will be starters, so their additions were key but they certainly don’t light the world on fire.
Biggest Loss: The Tribe really didn’t lose any player of substance over the offseason outside of Andy Marte, who now plays for the Pirates. Most of the damage has been done over the last couple of trade deadlines as the front office has rid the roster of fan favorites like CC Sabathia, Cliff Lee and Victor Martinez in efforts to rebuild.
Season Outlook: Tribe fans are in for another long year as their club continues to rebuild. The good news is that there are some young players worth getting excited about. Even though he only played in 42 games last season, Carlos Santana gave Cleveland some hope last year and if he can stay healthy, he’s going to be one to watch for years to come. He can hit for average, power and he already has developed great plate discipline. Shin-Soo Choo is another guy that has become extremely fun to watch, especially on defense. But all and all, this team will struggle once again this season. They really don’t have much hope catching teams like the Twins, Tigers and White Sox in the division, although they’re arguably better than Kansas City so they should finish in last place. But whether it’s fifth or fourth, it really doesn’t matter because again, Cleveland’s in for a bumpy ride in 2011.
