Pirates 2011 Season Betting Odds
(The Spread) – It could be another long season for the Pittsburgh Pirates, who failed to crack the 60-win mark last year and might not do so again in 2011.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com, the Pirates have an over/under total of 67.5 for wins this season. They’re also +10000 to win the 2011 World Series and +10000 to win the NL Central Division.
Offseason Additions: The club signed starter Kevin Correia to a two-year deal and also reached and two-year pact with outfielder Matt Diaz. They added Lyle Overbay and Scott Olson with one-year contracts. They also acquired pitcher Cesar Valdez in a trade with the Diamondbacks (sending Zach Duke to Arizona) and IF/OF Corey Wimberly from the A’s for Ryan Kelly.
Offseason Losses: Along with Duke, the Bucs also parted was with Lastings Milledge, Andy LaRoche, Delwyn Young, Chan Ho Park, Wil Ledezma and Joe Martinez, whom they acquired from the Giants during a mid-season trade last year.
Season Outlook: Like always: not good. The lone bright spot on this club in terms of potential star talent is outfielder Andrew McCutchen, but he needs more help if this club is to succeed. Anthony Rendon and Jameson Taillon are still years away from competing and there’s just not enough talent on the big league roster to compete with the Reds, Brewers and Cardinals in the division. In fact, it’s a little surprising to see that their over/under total for wins is so high, which is saying something considering the number is 67.5.
