Mariners 2011 Season Betting Odds
(The Spread) – It should come as no surprise that the offensively challenged Seattle Mariners will once again struggle to keep their head above water.

Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Mariners +10000 money line long shots to win the 2011 World Series and +1200 long shots to win the AL West. After winning just 61 games last season, it’s surprising to see oddsmakers list Seattle’s over/under for wins in 2011 at 70 (with “Even” odds on the under). But oddsmakers often know more than we do, so who are we to question their odds?
Offseason Additions: The M’s signed catcher Miguel Olivo to a two-year deal and DH Jack Cust to a one-year contract. They also re-upped with starter Erik Bedard and acquired shortstop Brendan Ryan from the Cardinals in exchange for Maikel Cleto.
Offseason Losses: The club parted ways with Jose Lopez, Casey Kotchman, Russell Branyan, Rob Johnson, Ryan Rowland-Smith, Ian Snell, Sean White and Matt Lawson over the winter.
Season Outlook: Remember when there was so much optimism surrounding this team last winter when they traded for Cliff Lee to pair with Felix Hernandez? Yeah, seems like decades ago now. The M’s aren’t fully committed to rebuilding and they don’t have enough talent to contend, even in a wide-open AL West. That means they’re stuck and a fourth place finish in the division is probably inevitable. After King Felix and Ichiro, Seattle doesn’t have much to offer unless Justin Smoak (the key piece in the deal that sent Lee to Texas) has himself a year.
