Kennedy & Estes Sign
Washington, DC – People familiar with the deals tell The Associated Press that free-agent second baseman Adam Kennedy and left-handed pitcher Shawn Estes have agreed to sign with the Washington Nationals.
One person confirmed that Kennedy’s agreement calls for him to make $1.25 million in 2010 and there is a $2 million club option for 2011. A physical is pending.
A second person told the AP that Estes agreed to a minor league contract. If Estes – who did not pitch in the majors last season – is added to Washington’s 40-man roster, he would get a $600,000, one-year contract and the chance to earn $400,000 in performance bonuses, the person said.
Both people spoke on condition of anonymity Friday because the team had not yet announced either agreement.
