New York Mets 2016 Win Total Picks & Predictions

Mets 2016 Win Total Prediction

After winning 90 games last season in route to a National League pennant and a World Series appearance, will the Mets surpass their win total for 2016?

Atlantis Casino set New York’s win total for the 2016 season at 88, which is the third-highest over/under in the league. Only the Giants at 90 wins and the Cubs at 89 have higher win totals than the defending NL champion Mets.

In January the Mets were able to re-sign outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, who gave the club a massive spark after New York acquired him at the trade deadline last year. The Mets also signed free agent outfielder Alejandro De Aza and shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera, plus re-signed right-hander Bartolo Colon. Their biggest trade came with the Pirates, who acquired Jon Niese in exchange for Neil Walker, who will replace the departed Daniel Murphy (Nationals).

Over or Under 88 Wins?

Under. The Mets have never won consecutive division titles in franchise history so Terry Collins and Co. will be dealing with enormous expectations. Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard are the biggest reasons for Mets fans to be excited for sustained success, but all three pitchers also threw more innings than any season in their careers last year. Can Collins and his staff effectively handle the workloads of those three gems from spring training through September?

Thanks to their pitching there are high hopes for the Mets to repeat as National League East champions but they’ll face a stiff challenge from a Nationals team that will be plenty pissed off after failing to live up to the hype heading into 2015. The Marlins should also produce more than the 71 wins last year with a sneaky good bullpen and a solid lineup, which will take away from the Mets’ win total.

Eighty-five wins is more realistic for the Mets than 88.
