Mets’ Harvey plots rebound against Braves
Matt Harvey’s rarely gone through such an up-and-down stretch in his MLB career. Thankfully for the Mets, they’re compensating with an offensive bonanza.
New York collides with Atlanta tonight in the opener of a three-game set at Turner Field. Oddsmakers at online sports book Bovada.lv like the visiting club as a 1.5-run favorite, with the over/under total set at 7.5 runs.
Terry Collins’ players continued to rake on Wednesday. Philadelphia may have snapped the Mets’ three-game winning streak, but Yoenis Cespedes and Lucas Duda belted back-to-back homers. The twin dingers gave New York (7-7) a total of 19 over the past six tilts. Bear in mind that the reigning National League champion managed a mere two long balls through the first week-plus of the season.
Maybe some inevitable pop can help Harvey regain form. The righty’s lost each of his three starts with a 5.71 ERA. In Harvey’s outing against Cleveland last weekend, he retired the first 13 before surrendering five runs and walking three through 5 2/3 innings.

Neither Harvey nor Collins will appease those searching for an injury-related reason behind the ace’s struggles. If the Dark Knight wants to silence critics, however, he should begin by muzzling the Braves (4-11). Fredi Gonzalez’s group just dropped two in a row to the Dodgers, and this evening’s hurler doesn’t inspire a surplus of confidence. Veteran Bud Norris (1-2, 6.23) has permitted nine runs and 16 hits while walking five over his last two assignments.
When the Mets go down to Georgia, good things typically happen. Bank on Flushing’s finest to prevail for the fifth straight time in Fulton County, with Harvey starring on the rubber.
