Mets hammer Chicago
The Mets dropped the opener of this series, but bounced back by winning the last two games, including a 10-2 win on Saturday. New York is 37-40 on the season, 17-26 on the road and 41-28 with the over. Jacob deGrom gets the start for the Mets this afternoon. He is 4-6 on the season with a 3.26 ERA.
The Mets scored in each of the first six innings of Saturday’s game, as they didn’t give the Cubs much chance to breathe. Pete Alonso continued his amazing season as he hit his 26th home run of the year, driving in his 60th run. Todd Frazier and Wilson Ramos also homered in the win. Frazier finished with three RBI while Jeff McNeil also drove in three runs. All of the run support allowed Zack Wheeler to cruise on the mound. He pitched seven innings and allowed just one run to get his sixth win of the year.
Cubs struggle again
Chicago has not been able to find a consistent win streak as of late and the Cubs have now lost two straight at home to the Mets. The Cubs are 41-35 on the season, 26-14 at home and 40-34 with the over. Chicago will have Cole Hamels getting the start this afternoon. He is 6-2 on the season with a 2.85 ERA.
Chicago didn’t have much of a chance on Saturday as Jose Quintana didn’t have his best stuff. He allowed nine runs over 4.1 innings to fall to 4-7 on the season. At the plate, Chicago had six hits, but only one was for extra-bases. Jason Heyward had three of the six hits, including a double. The two Chicago runs were scored off a double play and on a wild pitch.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Mets are just 1-5 in deGrom’s last six road starts and 7-21 in their last 28 road games.
Chicago
The Cubs are 8-4 in their last 12 home games and 10-4 in Hamel’s last 14 starts.
Prediction:
The odds here are somewhat surprising. While the Mets have won the last two games, I am surprised to see them as a road favorite. Hamels has pitched quite well as of late, allowing just one earned run over his last 29 innings. Jacob deGrom is certainly a great pitchers, but he has given up multiple runs in four of his last five outings. I would expect this game to be a pitching dual, but I think that favors Chicago. Hamels has been locked in, is at home, and has the better hitting based on numbers.
MLB Prediction: Chicago Cubs -155
