Matt Harvey will draw the start tonight for New York after surrendering three runs in two innings in Wednesday’s spring training tilt against the Nationals. He had to skip his start Tuesday following the diagnosis of a blood clot in his bladder but his velocity was good and he retired five straight after giving up a three-run blast to Ryan Zimmerman in the first inning.

Harvey will be opposed by Edinson Volquez, who was solid in his final tune-up of spring training on Monday. He held the Padres to two runs across five innings of work and also struck out four while allowing five hits and walking two. He holds a 3.95 ERA with 14 strikeouts over 13 2/3 innings during Cactus League play.
Pitchers often have the advantage over hitters when teams return to their home cities following spring training. The climate is usually colder and pitchers go from strengthening their arms and working on new grips to actually trying to get hitters out. This leads to plenty of low-scoring games, which is what we should see tonight when these two teams square off.
