deGrom, Alonso lead way to win
A two-run single up the middle by Pete Alonso in the top of the seventh inning put New York on top for good Saturday night in a 4-1 victory at Kansas City. Alonso finished the contest 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Juan Lagares went 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI. Wilson Ramos ended the game 2-for-5. Jacob deGrom picked up the win as he gave up one earned run on three hits with five strikeouts and two walks over seven innings. Seth Lugo notched the save as he struck out one in a perfect inning of work. Zack Wheeler draws the start this afternoon as he enters with a 9-7 record, 4.36 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with 151 strikeouts over 144 1/3 innings pitched.
Soler drives in lone run
Kansas City fell by a score of 4-1 at home Saturday night against New York to drop to 44-79 overall and 24-38 at home. Hunter Dozier helped lead the Royals offense as he went 2-for-4. Jorge Soler ended the game 1-for-4 with an RBI. Nicky Lopez was 1-for-3. Jakob Junis took the loss as he surrendered three earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and one walk over 6 1/3 innings. Glenn Sparkman will start today for KC as he comes in with a 3-8 record, 5.45 ERA and 1.44 WHIP with 58 strikeouts over 99 innings pitched.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Mets are 7-1 in their last eight interleague road games. New York is 19-7 in its last 26 games overall.
Kansas City
New York found timely offense in the seventh and then addied an insurance run to get yesterday’s win. I rate Junis as a better pitcher than Sparkman by every metric, so the Mets offense should flourish today. Wheeler has been inconsistent this season, but threw two gems in a row before taking a few steps back last start. I expect good Wheeler here and a New York win on getaway day.
