Subway Series moves to the Bronx
Jay Bruce’s first start for the Mets featured no fireworks from the National League’s leading RBI man. Luckily, his new teammates were more than ready to pick up the slack.
New York pounded the Yankees on Tuesday, 7-1, scoring four seventh-inning runs off Masahiro Tanaka. The Subway Series shifts to the Yanks’ lair tonight. According to online sports book Bovada.lv, Terry Collins’ club is a 1.5-run favorite. The hosts enter as -102 underdogs.
The Mets still don’t know if Yoenis Cespedes’ ailing quad will allow him to suit up at 7:05 p.m. ET. His pinch-hit infield single about 12 hours ago, though, keyed the squad’s climactic offensive surge. Michael Conforto and pitcher Jacob deGrom added two base knocks apiece.
Of course, Collins wouldn’t object to a show-stopping performance from Bruce. Acquired from Cincinnati before the trade deadline, the right fielder went 0-for-4 in his New York debut. This evening’s adversary, however, could get No. 19 back on track. Chad Green makes his eighth appearance of the season for Joe Girardi. Lefties are batting .262 off the 25-year-old rookie.

Steven Matz, who recently tossed six spotless frames against the Marlins, takes the ball for the Mets. Considering the Yankees’ commitment to a full-fledged youth movement down the stretch, we like the southpaw’s chances of dominating. Bank on the real wild-card contenders to snatch their second straight victory.
