Mets score three in ninth to prevail

New York had been shut down by Phillies starter Jake Arrieta for 7 1/3 shutout innings Friday night and Philadelphia continued to lead by a slim 1-0 score heading to the ninth. But a three-spot off Phillies closer Hector Neris propelled the Mets to the 3-1 victory. Michael Conforto, who went 2-for-3, hit a two-run homer with one out to give New York a 2-1 lead. Devin Mesoraco, acquired this week from the Reds in a trade for Matt Harvey, followed up with an insurance home run to lead the way to the win. Asdubal Cabrera went 2-for-3 with a double. A.J. Ramos threw a scoreless inning of relief to earn the win, while Jeurys Familia pitched the ninth for his 11th save.

Jacob deGrom, who missed a start after leaving his previous start with a hyperextended elbow, returns to action today. He is 3-0 on the season with a 1.87 ERA and 54 strikeouts in 43 1/3 innings pitched..

Herrera stays red-hot

Odubel Herrera is hitting like he wants to win a batting crown as he racked up two more hits in three at-bats Friday, including a solo home run in the bottom of the first that held up as the game’s only run until the fateful ninth inning. Herrera is now batting .360 on the season from the third spot in the batting order with an OPS of .995. He batted .281 last season with an OPS of .777. Scott Kingery was the only other Philly player with multiple hits as he had a pair of singles in four at-bats.

The Phillies are going with Aaron Nola (5-1, 2.05 ERA) today, bumping Zach Eflin (1 ER in 12 2/3 IP) who was slated to start Saturday’s game.

MLB Betting Trends

New York

The Mets are 2-8 in their last 10 games overall. New York is 6-14 in its last 20 games overall.

Philadelphia

The Phillies are 19-7 in their last 26 home games. Philadelphia is 25-28 in the last 83 meetings.

Predictions:

Both starting pitchers are ace quality, but the difference for me is that Nola comes in healthy and on top of his game. While deGrom had also been pitching outstanding lately, his rhythm could be off due to the injury. Go with the hosts here.
