Mets lose third straight
The New York Mets have dropped three straight games following a 7-5 loss to the Phillies on Tuesday night. The Mets are 37-42 on the season, 17-28 on the road and 42-29 with the over. Jason Vargas gets the start for the Mets today. He is 3-3 on the year with a 3.75 ERA.
The Mets started quickly on Tuesday, taking a 4-1 lead through three innings, but the bullpen blew the game. Wilmer Font took the loss by allowing three runs in the sixth inning. At the plate, Jeff McNeil had four hits with a RBI while Amed Rosario had two hits, two runs and a RBI. Robinson Cano also had two hits and a RBI.
Phillies take first two
Philadelphia has won two straight after the seven-game losing streak, picking up 13-7 and 7-5 wins over the Mets. Philly is now 40-38 on the season, 24-17 at home and 40-36 with the under. The Phillies have Nick Pivetta getting the start today. He is 4-2 on the season with a 5.54 ERA.
Jake Arrieta had a shaky start, but still got the win. He pitched six innings and allowed five earned runs to improve to 7-6 on the season. Hector Neris earned his 16th save of the year. At the plate, Philly had four home runs. Rhys Hoskins had his 18th of the year to lead the way. Maikel Franco had two RBI while Cesar Hernandez had two hits and a RBI.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Mets are 3-8 in their last 11 games against a right-handed starter and 8-24 in their last 32 road games.
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 29-11 in their last 40 games against a left-handed starter, but they have lost five straight Game 3’s of a series.
Prediction:
Vargas is making his first start since the blowup with a reporter in the locker room. That could spark something good out of him. He seemed pretty intense with his apology and it could be a turning point for him. Even in a “bad outing” against the Cubs, Vargas gave up just two earned runs. Pivetta has given up 10 earned runs in his last 12 innings of work and has allowed at least three runs in seven of his nine starts. I think the matchup today favors the Mets, as long as their bullpen doesn’t blow up.
MLB Prediction: New York Mets +120
