Mets edged
The New York Mets lost their fourth straight on Wednesday night in a 5-4 loss to the Phillies in 10 innings. The Mets are 37-43 on the season, 17-29 on the road and 42-30 with the over. Zack Wheeler gets the start for New York today. He is 6-5 on the year with a 4.69 ERA.
The Mets had a 4-0 lead on Wednesday, but saw its bullpen let them down once again. Jason Vargas pitched 6.1 innings in his start, allowing just two earned runs with 10 strikeouts. However, Seth Lugo came in and gave up two runs in just 2/3 of an inning. Dominic Smith had a strong day at the plate with three hits, two runs and a RBI while Jeff McNeil had two hits and two RBI.
Phillies seeking sweep
Philadelphia has won the first three games in the series after edging the Mets on Wednesday night in extra innings. Philly is now 41-38 on the season, 25-17 at home and 41-36 with the under. The Phillies have Aaron Nola getting the start today. He is 6-2 on the year with a 4.55 ERA.
The Phillies overcame the four-run deficit and won Wednesday’s game in 10 innings when Jay Bruce had a walk-off double. He was one of four Philly players with multiple hits on the night. Jean Segura led the way with two hits and three RBI. On the mound, Nick Pivetta struggled in his start, allowing four runs over 5.2 innings, but the Philly bullpen threw 4.1 innings of scoreless ball. The pen allowed just one hit.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Mets are 8-25 in their last 33 road games and 6-20 in their last 26 road games against a right-handed starter.
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 2-5 in their last seven Game 4’s of a series, but 17-6 in Nola’s last 23 starts against a losing team.
Prediction:
Nola is coming off a great outing against the Marlins in his last start, racking up 10 strikeouts in eight innings. He now has 100 K’s on the year. Wheeler is coming off one of his better outings as well, but we have seen the New York bullpen be a real issue this series. New York has been in position to win a few games and the Mets can close things out. I expect another close game today, which tells me Philly has the edge once again.
MLB Prediction: Philadelphia Phillies -135
