Red Sox taking advantage of retooling Yanks
Drew Pomeranz’s time in the American League hasn’t gone according to plan. He’s got a great opportunity to turn things around tonight, though, against the rebuilding Yankees.
Boston hosts New York at 7:10 p.m. ET in the third game of an extended set between the two division rivals. Oddsmakers at online sports book Bovada.lv like Beantown’s newest lefty to notch his first victory. Conversely, Joe Girardi’s troops are considered +165 underdogs. The over/under run figure holds steady at 9.5.

Acquired from San Diego on July 14, Pomeranz is 0-2 with a 6.20 ERA for John Farrell. Team officials, however, remain enamored with the 27-year-old. He was solid in last week’s no-decision vs. the Mariners, yielding two runs on four hits.
Nathan Eovaldi’s nine wins lead the Yankees, but he’d prefer to forget the past two starts. The southpaw absorbed beatings at the hands of the Mets and Rays, surrendering seven earned runs across 13 innings this month. Perhaps a date at Fenway Park presents the perfect tonic, as Eovaldi boasts a 3-0 record in five career clashes with Boston.

At the end of the day, though, we’re skeptical of New York’s ability to sneak a second straight flamethrower past the AL’s top offensive attack. Once Jackie Bradley Jr. & Co. began to barrel up Luis Severino’s stuff, the party didn’t stop. Eovaldi will probably meet the same fate shortly.
