Yanks’ Severino seeks redemption vs. BoSox
As part of the Yankees’ new youth movement, Luis Severino has been given another chance in the starting rotation. Unfortunately for the righty, tonight’s assignment comes in Beantown.
Severino will try to tame the top offense in the American League at 7:10 p.m. ET. According to oddsmakers at online sports book BetDSI, the Red Sox embody 1.5-run favorites. New York, on the other hand, enters Yawkey Way as a +155 underdog. The over/under run total rests at 9.5.
After displaying much promise last September, Severino began the 2016 season as a key part of Joe Girardi’s staff. Losses in six of his first seven appearances, however, mandated a demotion to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The 22-year-old didn’t return to the parent club until July 27. Since then, he’s tossed 8 1/3 scoreless innings.
Of course, Severino won’t be facing any piddling club this evening. Boston leads the AL in batting average (.283), runs scored (598), doubles (245), slugging percentage (.465) and OPS (.815). Farrell’s troops hardly resembled their usual selves during a 5-6 road trip through Seattle and Los Angeles.

The skipper turns to veteran Rick Porcello to make things right shortly. With 14 victories, the righty trails only J.A. Happ among AL hurlers. He’s a perfect 10-0 in 11 assignments at Fenway Park.
We’ll believe in Severino to post a quality showing in his bona-fide return to the bright lights, but asking for a win seems extreme. The Red Sox are eager to commence a six-game homestand on the right note, which means the Yanks must slip to 56-56.
