Masahiro Tanaka gets the start today for the Yankees. He has appeared in six games this year and is 4-2 on the mound. Tanaka has a 4.37 ERA with a 1.03 WHIP. He has looked strong in his last two starts, allowing just two runs over 12.2 innings. On the year, he has 37 strikeouts with eight walks.
Astros bats go silent
The Astros were held scoreless for the second straight day and they have scored just two runs over their last three games. Houston is now 20-12 on the season and 10-8 at home. The Astros are putting up 4.81 runs per game this season while allowing 2.77 per contest.
Lance McCullers Jr. takes the mound today for Houston. He has started six games this year and is 4-1 on the mound with a 3.71 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP. Over 34 innings of work, McCullers has 44 strikeouts with 12 walks. Out of his last three starts, he has allowed just two runs total.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Yankees have now won seven of their last eight against winning teams and six of their last seven on the road. They are 5-2 in Tanaka’s last seven starts.
Houston
Houston has lost McCullers last five starts against AL East opponents but won six of his last eight starts overall. They have also won four straight on Thursday.
Prediction:
The hitting woes have to be a concern for Houston. They have let some good pitching go unrewarded. The Yankees clearly have the better hitting and I have to trust that more right now. While McCullers has been rolling, so had Verlander, but he didn’t get any run support. Tanaka has started to get into a groove on the mound and I think he will continue that today against Houston.
The Pick: New York Yankees +125
