Yankees fall behind early in loss
New York surrendered four runs in the first inning and trailed 7-0 through four innings Wednesday night in an 8-2 loss at the A’s. Aaron Hicks went 1-for-2 with two walks and a run to help pace the offense. Gary Sanchez was 1-for-3 with a 2-run homer plus a walk. Luis Severino suffered the loss as he gave up six runs (five earned) on six hits with three strikeouts and a walk in 2 2/3 innings.
M’s pound three homers vs. Orioles
Seattle completed its home series with Baltimore Wednesday night by winning 5-2, hitting three home runs in the process. Mitch Haniger was 1-for-4 with a solo home run plus a walk from the leadoff spot. Nelson Cruz went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, a walk and two runs. Denard Span finished 3-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk, two runs and two RBIs. Dee Gordon ended the game 2-for-4 with a double. Mike Leake gave up two unearned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and no walks over six innings. Edwin Diaz struck out two in a perfect ninth inning for his 53rd save.
Masahiro Tanaka (10-5, 3.83 ERA) will get the start today for the Yankees, while the Mariners are going with James Paxton (11-5, 3.74).
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Yankees are 9-3 in their last 12 road games. New York is 11-5 in Tanaka’s last 16 Friday starts.
Seattle
The over is 10-4 in the last 14 Mariners home games. Seattle is 7-19 in its last 26 home games.
Prediction:
Two good pitchers take the mound in this one, but I trust Tanaka a little more. New York got to Paxton in the Bronx early and he has a tendency to be a little inconsistent despite his occasional dominance. Seattle is frustrated dropping far back in the playoff race and while it can make up ground for an AL Wild Card spot here, it will take a miracle and it doesn’t look likely at all. Take the Yankees tonight.
