Bet Tonight’s A’s vs. Mariners Game
The A’s called up left-handed pitcher Eric Surkamp to face the Mariners tonight. Surkamp will be pitching tonight because Jesse Hahn, who missed half o the 2015 season due to an injury, returned this spring but was rusty. Oakland decided to send him to Triple-A to open the season so that he could get into game shape and not be rushed back before he was ready.
Surkamp joined the A’s this spring as a non-roster invitee and pitched in six games. In his best outing of the spring, he pitched seven shutout innings with seven strikeouts and only three baserunners against the Giants.

The Mariners will counter with Taijuan Walker, who will start in the team’s home opener. He worked on his breaking ball all spring and also added a slider. Those new additions will be vital because the scouting report on Walker in the past has been to lay off his secondary offerings and jump on his fastball.
The A’s are 2-6 in their last eight games versus the Mariners and are now 3-8 in their last 11 games versus the American League West dating back to last season. The M’s are also 4-1 in Walker’s last five home starts and 8-1 in his last nine outings after allowing five runs or more in their previous game.
