A’s Season Odds
With the offseason addition of former Colorado Rockies’ outfielder Matt Holliday, the Oakland A’s fell as though they can make some noise in 2009.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBG Global have made the A’s 30/1 long shots to win the 2009 World Series and established their American League Pennant odds at 16/1.
In one of the biggest offseason trades of the year, the A’s traded Carlos Gonzalez, Huston Street and Greg Smith to the Rockies in exchange for All-Star outfielder Matt Holliday. Even though Holliday battled some stomach problems that caused him to miss Opening Day, he should be good to go and ready to give Oakland’s lineup some added pop.
Holliday, wasn’t the only offseason addition Oakland made either, as Jason Giambi and Orlando Cabrera were signed to give the A’s’ offense a boost. Jack Cust delivers some power as well, so Oakland should score plenty of runs this year.
If the A’s are going to make a run in 2009, the young pitching staff has to come through. Sean Gallagher, Gio Gonzalez, Trevor Cahill, Edgar Gonzalez, Dana Eveland and Dallas Braden form one form one of the youngest rotations in baseball. If these kids can grow up in a hurry, you can count on Oakland giving the Los Angeles Angels a run in the AL West this year.
