Manaea beats Red Sox again
Athletics left-hander Sean Manaea didnt hurl a second no-hitter against the Red Sox, but he was efficient enough to record the win in Monday night’s 6-5 triumph. Manaea surrendered four runs (three earned) on eight hits with four strikeouts and one walk over six innings as Oakland held on for the win. Matt Joyce, Matt Olson and Khris Davis all had two hits including a home run in the win. Matt Chapman also had two hits and scored a run. Blake Treinen pitched a perfect ninth inning for his seventh save.
The start for the A’s tonight goes to Daniel Mengden (2-4, 4.06 ERA).
Boston nearly rallies back
After Oakland took a 4-2 lead with a three-run fourth inning, the Red Sox were in catch up mode the rest of the way Monday night. They cut it to 5-4 and 6-5 in the seventh and eighth innings, but could not piece together more runs to overtake the Athletics. The loss dropped Boston to second place in the AL East at 28-13 as it sits a half-game behind the Yankees. J.D. Martinez was 2-for-4 with a home run to help lead the Boston offense, while Rafael Devers also hit a homer. Rick Porcello allowed five earned runs on nine hits with five strikeouts and no walks over six innings to take the loss.
Eduardo Rodriguez (3-0, 4.58) starts tonight for the Red Sox.
MLB Betting Trends
Oakland
The A’s are 3-8 in their last 11 Tuesday games. Oakland is 18-44 in its last 62 meetings in Boston.
Boston
The Red Sox are 11-5 in their last 16 home games. The over is 10-4-1 in the last 15 Boston home games.
Prediction:
Rodriguez seems like the kind of lefty that might give the Athletics fits. Can’t see Oakland winning two in a row on the road against a Boston team that has slowed down since a red-hot start to the season, but is still filled to the brim with talent. Mengden is going to struggle to navigate the Red Sox lineup.
