According to oddsmakers at YouWager, Houston is favored at home, as the Astros are getting odds of -160 to win. The Athletics are getting odds of +150 to prevail, while the over/under total has been set at 8 runs. When it comes to public betting, Houston is getting 68 percent of the wagers at home. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our MLB Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.
Astros coming off series loss
The Astros are coming off a series loss to the Los Angeles Angels, but they did manage to pick up a 5-2 win in the series finale to avoid a sweep. Houston is now 17-9 overall and 7-5 at home. The Astros are averaging 4.88 runs per game this season while allowing 2.65 per contest.
Dallas Keuchel gets the start for Houston tonight. He has started five games this season and has a 3.10 ERA with a 1.38 WHIP. Over 29 innings of work, Keuchel has 25 strikeouts with 12 walks.
Athletics win-streak snapped
The Athletics have been rolling, but had their four-game win streak snapped on Wednesday at Texas, 4-2. Still, Oakland has won eight of its last 10. The Athletics are now 13-12 overall and 5-6 on the road. Oakland is putting up 5.12 runs per game on offense while allowing 4.68 per contest.
Sean Manaea is getting the start for Oakland tonight. He is coming off a no-hitter against the Red Sox last weekend and is now 3-2 through five starts. Through 36.2 innings, Manaea has 30 strikeouts with six walks, a 1.23 ERA and a 0.60 WHIP.
MLB Betting Trends
Oakland
The Athletics have lost their last five Friday games and 53 of their last 70 against a left-handed starter. They have won five of Manaea’s last seven starts.
Houston
Houston has won 39 of its last 58 series openers, but they are just 1-7 in Dallas Keuchel’s last eight starts when on five days of rest.
Prediction:
Houston certainly seems like the better overall team on paper, but Keuchel has been somewhat shaky. He faces an Oakland lineup that is able to produce runs. The Athletics don’t pitch all too well as a staff, but Manaea is locked in this season. I think he will pose a problem for the Houston hitters tonight. I am going to take my chances on Oakland as the underdog behind a better starting performance.
The Pick: Oakland Athletics +150
