Houston on a slide
The Astros opened this series with a surprising 8-1 loss at home on Friday for its third loss in four games. Houston is now 17-10 overall and 7-6 at home. The Astros are averaging 4.74 runs per game this season while allowing 2.85 per contest.
Lance McCullers Jr. will get the start tonight for Houston. He has started five games this season and has a 3-1 record. Through 27 innings of work, McCullers Jr. has a 4.67 ERA with a 1.44 WHIP, 12 walks and 37 strikeouts.
Athletics finding a groove
The Athletics have won five of their last six following the big win on Friday. Three of the five wins have come on the road and Oakland is also 8-2 in its last 10 games. The Athletics are now 14-12 overall and 6-6 on the road. They are averaging 5.23 runs per game while allowing 4.54 per contest.
Daniel Mengden is getting the start for Oakland tonight. He is 2-2 through five starts with a 3.86 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP. Over 30.1 innings of work, Mengden has 23 strikeouts with just three walks.
MLB Betting Trends
Oakland
The Athletics have won six of their last eight games following a win and they have won Mengden’s last four road starts and eight of his last 11 starts overall.
Houston
Despite the loss on Friday, Houston has still won 26 of its last 35 home games and 42 of its last 62 overall. The Astros have won five of McCullers’ last seven starts.
Prediction:
I like Oakland to pull off another upset today. The Astros have been streaky this year and appear to be on the downside. They have had a few poor games at the plate and a poor game on the mound. I think either/or could happen today. McCullers hasn’t been great in his starting role and the hitters could have trouble with Mengden, who is getting deep into games.
The Pick: Oakland Athletics +195
