Astros dominate on Saturday
After dropping the series opener, 8-1, on Friday, the Astros bounced back in a big way on Saturday with an 11-0 thrashing of Oakland. Houston is now 18-10 overall and 8-6 at home. The Astros are averaging 4.74 runs per game this season while allowing 2.85 per contest.
Gerrit Cole gets the start for today’s game. He is 2-1 through five starts this season but has went seven innings in every start. He has a 1.29 ERA and 0.77 WHIP on the season. Over 35 innings, he has 49 strikeouts with eight walks.
Athletics finding a groove
The Athletics suffered just their second loss in seven games with Saturday’s failure to score. The Athletics are now 14-13 overall and 6-7 on the road. They are averaging 5.23 runs per game while allowing 4.54 per contest.
Trevor Cahill gets the start for Oakland today. He has started just two games and has a 1-0 record with a 2.25 ERA and 1.08 WHIP. Over 12 innings of pitching, he has 14 strikeouts with four walks.
MLB Betting Trends
Oakland
Oakland has won 13 of its last 16 Sunday games and Cahill’s last four starts. They also have won Cahill’s last five starts against AL West opponents.
Houston
Houston has won 26 of its last 35 home games and they are 17-8 in their last 25 AL West games. They also are 4-1 in Cole’s last five starts.
Prediction:
The Astros dominated on Saturday and got back to their pitching being in control. I think their pitching will be the story again today. Cole has been able to run through his opposition and get deep into games. Cahill has been good as well, but has a much smaller sample size in 2018. I think the Astros can find runs on him. I’m not sure Oakland can.
The Pick: Houston Astros -220
