A’s fall in 12 innings
Oakland lost in 12 innings at home Sunday afternoon by a count of 6-4 against Houston. The Athletics scored a run in both the seventh and eighth innings to tie it before losing in extras. Matt Chapman paced the Oakland offense as he finished. 3-for-6 with a solo home run and a double. Robbie Grossman was 3-for-5 with a solo homer. Jurickson Profar finished 2-for-5 with a solo home run. Ramon Laureano was 1-for-5 with a solo homer. Lou Trivino suffered the loss as he allowed two earned runs on three hits over 1 1/3 innings, striking out two and walking one. Frankie Montas draws the start tonight for the A’s as he enters with a 6-2 record, 2.81 ERA and 1.20 WHIP with 66 strikeouts over 64 innings.
Angels lose makeup game
Los Angeles dropped an 8-1 decision at the Cubs Monday afternoon in a makeup game to fall to 29-31 overall and 14-17 on the road. The Angels trailed 6-0 before scoring their lone run in the top of the seventh inning. Mike Trout helped pace the offense as he was 1-for-4 and scored a run. Jonathan Lucroy was 0-for-3, but had the lone RBI. Tommy La Stella finished 1-for-3 plus a walk. Trevor Cahill took the loss as the bulk reliever as he surrendered five earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks over 4 1/3 innings. Griffin Canning will start tonight for Los Angeles as he comes in with a 2-1 record, 3.06 ERA and 0.96 WHIP with 34 strikeouts over 32 1/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Oakland
The Athletics are 6-0 in their last six road games. Oakland is 5-0 in its last five series openers.
Los Angeles
The Angels are 5-2 in their last seven games overall. Los Angeles is 2-5 in its last seven home games.
Prediction:
Montas and the A’s are in need of a win and they’ve played well on the road lately. With LA coming on an afternoon game yesterday with travel, Oakland should be the more rested team. This one will probably be low-scoring, but Montas has been good in most of his starts this season and I like Oakland to get the best of its AL West counterparts here.
