Nola guides Phillies past Red Sox
Philadelphia topped host Boston by a score of 3-2 Tuesday night to improve to 65-60 overal and 27-32 on the road. Rhys Hoskins led the Phillies offensively as he finished 1-for-3 with two walks plus a run scored. Jean Segura went 1-for-4 with a double, a run and two RBIs. Scott Kingery finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. Aaron Nola picked up the win as he gave up two earned runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and one walk over seven innings pitched. Hector Neris recorded his 22nd save as he allowed one hit with no strikeouts or walks over one inning of work. Drew Smyly draws the start tonight for Philly as he enters with a 2-7 record, 7.09 ERA and 1.66 WHIP with 82 strikeouts over 80 innings pitched.
Bradley Jr. homers in defeat
Boston lost 3-2 at home Tuesday night against Philadelphia to drop to 67-60 overall and 33-33 at home. Jackie Bradley Jr. paced the Red Sox offense as he finished 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Mitch Moreland was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Christian Vazquez ended the night 1-for-3 with a double. Brian Johnson suffered the loss as he gave up three earned runs on six hits over 3 2/3 innings, striking out four and walking two. Rick Porcello draws the start today as he comes in with an 11-9 record, 5.49 ERA and 1.41 WHIP with 109 strikeouts over 139 1/3 innings pitched.
MLB Betting Trends
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 5-0 in their last five interleague road games. Philadelphia is 4-1 in the last five Smyly starts.
Boston
The Red Sox are 6-2 in the last eight Porcello starts. Boston is 7-0 in the last seven Porcello starts versus the NL East.
Prediction:
Neither starting pitcher is having a particularly good season, but Smyly has been particularly bad and his last three starts have been a big negative after starting his Phillies tenure with a pair of strong outings. With both teams desperate for wins in the playoff hunt and the Phillies getting theirs last night, I’m siding with host Boston to showcase its high-powered offense tonight and even the series at a game apiece.
