Phillies take the opener
Philadelphia took the series opener on Friday with a 6-4 win at Milwaukee. The Phillies have won six of their last eight. The Phillies are 30-21 on the season, 12-11 on the road and 27-23 with the under. Philadelphia has Jake Arrieta on the mound today. He is 4-4 on the season with a 3.77 ERA.
The Phillies scattered the six runs on Friday, scoring a single run over six of the first seven innings on 11 hits. Rhys Hoskins hit his 12th home run of the season and had two hits in the win while Bryce Harper drove in a pair of runs. Jerad Eickhoff gave up four runs over three innings while Vince Velasquez got the win in relief. Hector Neris got his ninth save of the season by striking out the side in the ninth.
Brewers come up short
Milwaukee is coming off the loss on Friday for their fourth loss in six games. Milwaukee is 29-23 on the season, 17-10 at home and 30-21 with the under. The Brewers have Jhoulys Chacin on the mound today. He is 3-5 on the season with a 4.65 ERA.
Milwaukee scored four runs over the first three innings, but couldn’t find any more runs the rest of the way. Chase Anderson gave up three runs on the mound over just four innings, but didn’t take a decision. Freddy Peralta took the loss in relief by allowing two runs over two innings. He is now 2-2 on the year. Mike Moustakas connected on his 12th double of the season and drove in a run while Christian Yelich drove in his 42nd run of the year.
MLB Betting Trends
Philadelphia
The Phillies have won four straight road games against a right-handed starter and four of their last five Saturday games.
Milwaukee
The Brewers are 13-5 in their last 18 against NL East opponents, but just 2-6 in Chacin’s last eight starts.
Prediction:
Chacin hasn’t been terrible, but he hasn’t gotten much for run support over the last two months. He has just one win since April 3. Arrieta is coming of a solid start at Chicago, but he struggled at home against the Brewers last week, allowing five runs in six innings. Both teams can hit, so it really comes down to a matter of who will come through with the big hit. I think Chacin can pitch well against and the Brewers have shown they can hit Arrieta.
MLB Prediction: Milwaukee Brewers -130
