Mets’ uncertain SP to cause problems vs. Phils?
For a multitude of reasons, this afternoon’s home opener cannot arrive soon enough for the Mets.
Oddsmakers at online sports book BetDSI prefer New York as a 1.5-run favorite vs. woeful Philadelphia, with the over/under figure set at seven runs.
Noah Syndergaard led the way in Tuesday’s 2-0 shutout of Kansas City to give the Mets a series split at Kauffman Stadium. The identity of today’s starting hurler, however, may not be known until shortly before the two teams take the field at 1:10 p.m. ET.
Reigning 17-game winner Jacob deGrom remains the scheduled guy – provided that his wife doesn’t go into labor. Should the need arise, though, veteran Bartolo Colon is ready to take the baton for Terry Collins. He went 14-13 with a 4.16 ERA last year.

On the other side, the Phillies will surely send young righty Jerad Eickhoff (3-3 with a 2.65 ERA in eight MLB appearances) to the hill. Pete Mackinin’s club just dropped three in a row to the Reds after finishing with the worst record in the bigs in 2015 at 63-99.
Whether it’s deGrom or Colon, Philly promises to experience trouble. The only glimmer of optimism stems from the fact that Eickhoff twirled seven shutout innings against the Mets, striking out 10, last Oct 1. Then again, New York wants to vanquish all memories of last season’s Citi Field finale: a 7-2 loss to the Royals in Game 5 of the World Series.
