Philadelphia Phillies DFS SPIN
Jean Segura delivered a go-ahead, two-run single in the top of the ninth as the Phillies topped the Cardinals 6-3 in Game 1 of their Wild Card series. The Cardinals were up 2-0 after eight, but things fell apart in the ninth, as closer Ryan Helsley lost the strike zone and the defense faltered after Andre Pallante entered. Segura’s big blow came on a pitch a few inches off the ground. Fortunately, the Cardinals had the infield in, and Segura’s grounder to the right of Tommy Edman snuck through, giving the Phillies a 3-2 lead. Things only got worse from there for St. Louis, as Paul Goldschmidt was late throwing home on a fielder’s choice and Nolan Arenado whiffed on a grounder for a single. The Phillies will now get to go for the series win with Aaron Nola on the mound Saturday. The Cardinals will counter with Miles Mikolas.
St. Louis Cardinals DFS SPIN
Ryan Helsley said he experienced numbness in his injured middle finger before exiting Friday’s game in the ninth inning. Helsley injured the final fielding a comebacker last week, but he said he was ready to go today. He’s currently getting tests, leaving his availability for the rest of the Wild Card series unclear.
