Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Arizona Diamondbacks 4/22/16 MLB Predictions

Pirates vs. Diamondbacks Prediction

The Pirates crushed the Padres on Thursday night but can they slow down the red-hot Diamondbacks tonight at 9:40PM ET?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Diamondbacks are -130 money line favorites over the Pirates, who have odds of +120 to pull off the upset. With Jon Niese set to face Patrick Corbin in the pitching matchup, the total has risen to 9 runs after it opened at 8.5.

Bet Tonight’s Pirates vs. Diamondbacks Game

Niese threw seven innings of shutout ball in a win against the Brewers in his last start and is now 2-0 on the year with a 3.50 ERA. But he’s due for some bad luck. His .204 BABIP is sure to skyrocket over his next few starts, unless he can strike out more than 7.50 per nine. He’s not going to keep stranding runners at a 67.6-percent clip and continue to win.

As for Corbin, he went 6 2/3 innings and picked up the win against the Padres on April 17, allowing three runs on six hits. His 2.75 ERA is a bit misleading, as he’s stranded 80.8% of his runners despite striking out just 6.41 batters per nine. With a 4.21 FIP and a 3.68 xFIP, his earned run average should be higher.

OUR PREDICTION: The over is 5-0 in the Pirates last five road games and is 4-1 in their last five games following a win. The over is also 4-0 in the Bucs’ last four games versus a team with a winning pitcher and 4-1 in their last five games versus NL West opponents. On the other side, the over is 4-0 in the D-Back’s last four home games versus a left-handed starter and has cashed in four of Corbins’ last five starts coming off four days of rest.
