Pirates rained out Sunday
Pittsburgh’s five-game winning streak stayed intact Sunday as it was rained out at home versus Miami. On Saturday, the Pirates secured a 5-1 victory as Ivan Nova threw six innings of three-hit ball to earn the victory. He struck out nine and walked one. Adam Frazier went 2-for-4 with a double and a run from the leadoff spot to help pace the offense. Josh Bell went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, two walks and two runs. Jose Ozuna finished 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.
Cardinals avoid sweep at Detroit
The Cardinals picked up a 5-2 win at the Tigers Sunday afternoon as every run in the game by both teams was scored in the seventh inning. Jose Martinez was 1-for-4 with an RBI to help lead the way. Paul DeJong went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Kolten Wong was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Greg Garcia finished 0-for-1 with two walks and a run. Carson Kelly ended the game 2-for-4 with an RBI. John Gant earned the win as he allowed two earned runs on five hits over 6 2/3 innings, striking out six and walking one.
Trevor Williams (12-9, 3.15 ERA) will take the mound for Pittsburgh tonight, while St. Louis counters with Wainwright (1-3, 4.00).
MLB Betting Trends
Pittsburgh
The under is 19-6-1 in the last 26 Pirates games. Pittsburgh is 3-9 in its last 12 road games.
St. Louis
The Cardinals are 21-9 in their last 30 games overall. The under is 13-6 in the last 19 St. Louis home games.
Prediction:
Pittsburgh has been rolling lately and now has Williams on the mound, who has flourished in the second half of the season. Wainwright seems to be back to good health and is fully capable of slowing down the Pirates offense in a pitcher’s park. I’m definitely leaning toward taking the under in this one as I can’t see too many runs being scored.
