ARLINGTON, TX (The Spread) – The Rangers are on the verge of making a huge splash by acquiring Cole Hamels from the Phillies.

Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports that the Rangers will acquire Hamels and Jake Diekman from the Phillies in exchange for Matt Harrison, Alec Asher, Jerad Eickhoff, Nick Williams and Jorge Alfaro. It was a steep price for Texas, as Alfaro, Williams and Thompson are key prospects, but the Rangers acquire another ace to pair with Yu Darvish for the next few seasons.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Rangers’ odds to win the 2016 World Series remain 66/1. Those were the same odds that Texas faced before the trade, but perhaps oddsmakers are waiting for the trade to become official before they make changes to the Rangers’ Fall Classic futures.

The Rangers are currently eight games back of the Houston Astros in the American League West and four games back of the second wild card in the AL. Even if Texas doesn’t make the playoffs, however, this was a move made for the next few years, not just 2015.
