Gregory Polanco will start in the designated hitter spot because he’s still battling some soreness in his left shoulder. Ace Gerrit Cole will toe the rubber for the Buccos.
BOSTON NOTES: Xander Bogaerts will bat sixth today after batting mostly second or third last season. He’s moving down in the lineup after he faded in the second half. Dustin Pedroia will lead off, followed by Andrew Benintendi, Mookie Betts, Hanley Ramirez, Mitch Moreland, Bogaerts, Jackie Bradley Jr., Pablo Sandoval and Sandy Leon when Boston takes on Cole. Rick Porcello will start for the Red Sox.
