Jesse Winker (intercostal) went 0-for-2 with a strikeout in his rehab debut Tuesday night with Triple-A Louisville. Winker was removed for a pinch hitter before what would have been his third at-bat, but that might have been all part of the plan in his first live game since going down with an intercostal strain in mid-August. Assuming no setbacks, the outfielder should be ready to return to the Reds sometime this weekend. He was batting .307/.395/.560 with 24 home runs, 71 RBI, and 77 runs scored through 109 games before landing on the injured list.

Chris Stratton notched his fifth save despite giving up a run in the ninth Tuesday against the Reds. With David Bednar absent, the closing gig belongs to Stratton now. He surrendered a homer to Nick Castellanos tonight, but fortunately, he had a two-run lead to work with. He’s given up nine homers in 71 1/3 innings for the year.
