Rockies Nearing Deal with CarGo
DENVER (AP) – The publicist for Carlos Gonzalez says an $80 million, seven-year contract for the Colorado Rockies outfielder is “practically finalized.”
Fabiola Bohorquez confirmed from Venezuela the signing is “imminent,” pending a physical. Gonzalez will soon fly to Denver to sign the contract, she said.
The Rockies said they couldn’t confirm the deal, which was first reported by the Denver Post. Scott Boras, Gonzalez’s agent, said only “we are in discussions with Colorado.”
Gonzalez had a breakout season in 2010, winning a Silver Slugger award and a Gold Glove. He won the NL batting title with a .336 average and also hit 34 homers and drove in 117 runs despite batting leadoff for 44 games early in the year.
