Padres reverse roles
San Diego earned a 3-2 win over the Reds on Monday and then suffered a 3-2 loss to Cincy last night. San Diego is 59-66 on the season, 30-33 on the road and 59-58 with the over. Matt Strahm gets the start for San Diego this afternoon. He is 5-8 on the season with a 5.21 ERA.
The Padres couldn’t get the offense going on Tuesday, putting up just four hits and two runs. Josh Naylor and Manny Machado each had two hits to lead the Padres at the plate. Naylor also homered in the victory. On the mound, Cal Quantrill took the loss to fall to 6-4 on the season. He gave up three runs over six innings and had nine strikeouts with no walks.
Reds bounce back
Cincinnati grabbed the 3-2 win last night to bounce back after losing the series opener on Monday. The Reds are now 59-66 on the season, 36-31 at home and 72-48 with the under. Cincinnati has Luis Castillo on the mound this afternoon. He is 11-5 on the season with a 3.10 ERA.
Sonny Gray got the win on the mound last night with another strong outing. He improved to 9-6 on the season with a win. Gray struck out 10 over six innings, allowing one run on four hits. Raisel Iglesias earned his 25th save of the season by striking out two in the ninth. Freddy Galvis homered in the win with a two-run shot while Josh VanMeter had two hits and scored two runs.
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
The Padres are 5-2 in their last seven Wednesday games, but 6-14 in their last 20 Game 3’s of a series.
Cincinnati
The Reds are 4-1 in their last five games against a losing team, but just 7-19 in their last 26 Wednesday games.
Prediction:
Luis Castillo is coming off one of his worst showings of the season in his last start at home against the Cardinals, but he has been able to bounce back well this year. He has a 2.97 ERA at home despite that blow up and he has a 1.50 ERA against the Padres this year. Strahm is a relief starter, so he won’t be on the mound for very long. The Padres have had a lot of tense relief innings in this series, so I think the bullpen could be in trouble trying to sustain high-caliber play today.
MLB Prediction: Cincinnati Reds -140
