Galvis homers in win
San Diego shortstop Freddy Galvis finished 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBIs in Saturday’s 5-4 victory. The Padres broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the eighth inning on a Travis Jankowski RBI single that scored Hunter Renfroe. Jankowski went 2-for-5 with the RBI. Cory Spangenberg was 2-for-5 with a stolen base, a run and an RBI. Craig Stammen allowed one hit and struck out two in 1 2/3 innings of relief to earn the win.
Straily struggles again
Marlins starting pitcher Dan Straily only allowed one earned run in his previous start, but walked five and couldn’t make it through the fifth inning. He was poor again Saturday as his ERA ballooned to 4.08, giving up four earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and no walks over 3 2/3 innings. Derek Dietrich led the offense by going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Brian Anderson went 2-for-5 and scored a run.
Clayton Richard (4-6, 4.67 ERA) gets the start today for the Padres, while Jose Urena (1-7, 4.60) will be on the mound for Miami.
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
The over is 7-2 in the last nine Padres games overall. San Diego is 8-3 in its last 11 games.
Miami
The Marlins are 4-11 in their last 15 games. Miami is 4-17 in Urena’s last 21 starts.
Prediction:
Two struggling pitchers are on the mound today, so I think I’ll go with the team playing better baseball the last couple weeks and that is San Diego. The Marlins won a couple games at St. Louis and has won one of two in this series, but is recently coming off a six-game losing streak. Urena got his first win of the year against the Cardinals, but he wasn’t exactly strong as he allowed four earned runs on 10 hits in five innings. Richard might baffle some of the undisciplined Miami hitters, but I think the Padres will get to Urena.
