Padres get over .500
San Diego is riding a four-game win streak right now to get over the .500 mark thanks to a sweep of the Brewers at home. The Padres are 38-37 overall, 17-17 on the road and 37-33 with the over. San Diego has Eric Lauer on the mound today. He is 5-6 on the season with a 4.60 ERA.
The Padres are not excelling in any category, but still are a winning team. They average just 4.39 runs per game at the plate while hitting .241 as a team. On the mound, San Diego has a 4.57 team ERA with a 1.25 team WHIP. Hunter Renfroe has been leading the team this season with 23 home runs and 43 RBI while Eric Hosmer has 12 doubles, 11 home runs and 50 RBI.
Pirates alternating wins and losses
Pittsburgh has alternated wins and losses over its last six games and is coming off an 8-7 win over the Tigers on Wednesday. The Pirates are now 33-40 on the season, 14-19 at home and 44-27 with the over. Pittsburgh has Joe Musgrove on the mound today. He is 4-7 on the season with a 4.87 ERA.
The Pirates are struggling on the mound, posting a 5.12 team ERA with a 1.44 team WHIP. Offensively, Pittsburgh is averaging 4.48 runs per game while hitting .261 at the plate. Josh Bell is leading the team with 27 doubles, 20 home runs and 66 RBI while Colin Moran has 10 home runs and 41 RBI.
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
The Padres are 14-5 in their last 19 games following a day off and 7-3 in their last 10 series openers.
Pittsburgh
The Pirates are 5-16 in their last 21 games against a team with a winning record and 2-10 in their last 12 series openers.
Prediction:
Musgrove has been tough to trend, as he has given up a lot of runs over recent starts, but has the occasional solid outing. Still, he has given up at least three earned runs in five of his last six outings. Lauer is a little more predictable, but is coming off a bad showing in Colorado. Still, Pittsburgh is really not playing well right now while the Padres have some momentum going. I look for the Padres to pitch well and get a few timely hits to get the victory.
MLB Prediction: San Diego Padres +100
