Madison Bumgarner was lit up for seven runs (four earned) in five-plus innings on Friday night as San Francisco fell to Los Angeles, 7-3. The good news for the Giants is that Joe Panik returned to the lineup and went 1-for-4 with a run scored in the defeat. Panik had been dealing with a hip injury suffered when he dove for a ground ball in a game on Wednesday.
Enrique Hernandez homered twice and doubled off Bumgarner in the victory. Hernandez had a rough spring but he’s now hitting .440/.481/.800 in 25 at bats to start the season. He’ll have the opportunity to get regular at bats with both Andre Ethier and Carl Crawford on the disabled list.
OUR PICK: Dating back to last season the Giants are now 0-5 in their last five road games versus the Dodgers and have now lost four of their last five road games overall. They’re 6-14 in their last 20 games versus a left-handed starter and 4-11 in their last 15 road games versus a left-handed starter as well. The Dodgers, meanwhile, have now won 11 of their last 15 games versus the rest of the NL West and are 70-32 in their last 102 games at Dodgers Stadium.
