Shaw, Yelich homer for Brewers
Christian Yelich finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a stolen base Saturday night in a 4-3 victory at home over San Francisco, while Travis Shaw was 1-for-4 with a solo homer. The long balls for Yelich and Shaw were their 28th of the season each. Jesus Aguilar went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run. Gio Gonzalez earned the win in his first start with Milwaukee as he allowed one unearned run on three hits with seven strikeouts and no walks over 5 2/3 innings. Jeremy Jeffress picked up his 10th save as he gave up one hit with two strikeouts and one walk over 1 1/3 innings.
Jones hits homer in defeat
Ryder Jones hit a pinch-hit 2-run home run in his lone at-bat in the Giants’ loss Saturday at Milwaukee. Austin Slater finished 1-for-3 with an RBI. Chris Stratton took the loss as he allowed four earned runs on four hits with six strikeouts and three walks over five innings.
Madison Bumgarner (5-5, 3.07 ERA) draws the start today for San Francisco, while the Brewers are turning to Zach Davies (2-5, 4.88).
MLB Betting Trends
San Francisco
The Giants are 15-5 in their last 20 Sunday games. The under is 24-9-2 in the last 35 San Francisco road games.
Milwaukee
The over is 11-1 in the Brewers’ last 12 Sunday games. Milwaukee is 4-10 in its last 14 Sunday games.
Prediction:
While the San Francisco offense is struggling even more than it previously had after the trade of Andrew McCutchen and the season-ending hip surgery of Buster Posey, it faces a hittable pitcher today in Davies who is still rounding into shape after missing months with an injury. With the Giants’ ace on the mound in Bumgarner, he’ll give them a fighting chance and I think he does well enough to get the job done here as San Francisco ends its seven-game losing skid.
