White Sox back to hitting woes
After snapping a seven-game losing streak on Monday, Chicago went back to its hitting woes on Tuesday in a 1-0 loss. Chicago is now 5-15 overall and 2-9 at home. Chicago is averaging 3.89 runs per game while allowing 6.53 per contest.
James Shields gets the start this afternoon for the Sox. He is coming off a rough start where he allowed seven runs in 5.1 innings to the Astros. On the year, Shields has 11 strikeouts with 13 walks, a 6.17 ERA and a 1.71 WHIP.
Seattle inconsistent
The Mariners may have won on Tuesday, but they have struggled to find a balance between hitting and pitching. Their pitching was strong on Tuesday, but their hitting was nearly non-existent. Their pitching had been the issue in previous games. Seattle is now 12-10 overall and 7-5 on the road. The Mariners are putting up 4.33 runs per game this season while allowing 5.19 per contest.
Felix Hernandez gets the start for the Mariners on Wednesday. He has not really been King Felix in 2018, posting a 2-2 record with 5.06 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP. Felix has 20 strikeouts with 10 walks over 26.2 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Seattle
Seattle has won six of Hernandez’ last seven road starts and seven of his last 10 starts overall. They are 6-2 in their last eight road games as well.
Chicago
The White Sox have lost Shields’ last four starts against a team with a winning record and they are just 2-7 in his last nine starts against AL West opponents.
Prediction:
Chicago didn’t manage a run on Tuesday and their hitting isn’t likely to improve a great deal with Avisail Garcia landing on the DL. Hernandez certainly hasn’t been untouchable, but I think he will be on the better side of things today against a Chicago order that goes cold quickly. Seattle should managed to hit the ball against Shields, who struggles to get strikeouts.
The Pick: Seattle Mariners -160
