Mariners vs. Indians Pick
Two teams off to inconsistent starts to the new season will square off in Cleveland when the Indians host the Mariners at 12:10PM ET today.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Indians are +102 on the money line to pull off the small upset versus the Mariners, who have odds of -112. With Nathan Karns set to face Cody Anderson in the pitching matchup, the over/under for today’s game is sitting at 8.5 runs.
Bet Today’s Mariners vs. Indians Game
This will be Karn’s third start of the season after going five innings in his first two outings. He’s 1-1 on the year with a 4.50 ERA and has allowed five runs, all earned, on 12 hits over 10.0 innings pitched. His FIP (4.57) is in line with his ERA, although his xFIP is 3.77 and his BABIP is sitting at .385, which suggests he’s been somewhat unfortunate with batted-balls over his 10 innings of work. He does have a healthy strikeout rate of 11.70 per nine, but he’s walking batters at a 4.50 clip.

Anderson is 0-1 on the year and is coming off a start against the Mets in which he went just 4 2/3 innings while allowing five runs on nine hits. His ERA stands at 5.91 but his FIP (7.47) numbers indicate that he’s pitched even worse than his ERA would indicate and his xFIP is an ugly 5.28 as well. He’s striking out just 5.91 per nine and walking batters at a 2.53 clip. His HR/9 is also an unsightly 3.38.
TODAY’S PICK: At least Karns can point to his BABIP for signs that he’s been unlucky; Anderson has been dreadful. The Indians are just 1-7 in their last eight games versus a team with a winning percentage below .400 while the road team has won 10 of the last 11 games in which umpire Lance Barksdale has been behind home plate. With how poorly Anderson has pitched, Robinson Cano and the Mariners have some value at -112.
