Kikuchi hurls shutout
Yusei Kikuchi threw a complete-game shutout Sunday afternoon at Toronto to lead Seattle to a 7-0 victory. Kikuchi only gave up two hits with eight strikeouts and one walk over the nine scoreless frames. Keon Broxton helped pace the offense as he finished 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs scored. Kyle Seager went 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Austin Nola ended the contest 2-for-5 with a solo home run. Tom Murphy was 2-for-4 with a homer, a double and two RBIs. Marco Gonzales draws the start for the M’s tonight as he enters with a 12.8 record, 4.26 ERA and 1.36 WHIP with 116 strikeouts over 152 innings pitched.
Choi wins it in ninth
A two-run walk-off single by Ji-Man Choi in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday afternoon propelled Tampa Bay to a 5-4 win over Detroit. Choi ended the contest 1-for-1 off the bench with a walk plus the two RBIs. Tommy Pham helped pace the offense as he went 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, two runs scored and two RBIs. Travis d’Arnaud was 1-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI. Jose Alvarado picked up the win in relief as he struck out one and walked two in a scoreless inning of work. Brendan McKay gets the start tonight for the Rays as he comes in with a 2-2 record, 5.08 ERA and 1.40 WHIP with 40 strikeouts over 33 2/3 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
Seattle
The Mariners are 0-4 in the last four Gonzales road starts. Seattle is 15-36 in its last 51 road games.
Tampa Bay
The Rays are 23-6 in their last 29 Monday games. The Rays are 4-12 in their last 16 home games versus the Mariners.
Prediction:
Gonzales is actually a top 10 pitcher in the American League in terms of FIP and I expect him to do a good job of keeping Seattle in the game tonight. The Mariners have excelled in Tampa Bay the last several years for whatever reason and with the Rays having to fight tooth and nail against the Tigers of all teams, they aren’t coming in with the best form. McKay has been shaky at times as a rookie and I think Seattle touches him up just enough to pave the way to a road win.
