Murphy homers propel M’s
A three-run home run by Tom Murphy in the top of the first inning Monday night helped send Seattle to a 9-3 victory at Tampa Bay. Murphy added another homer later and ended his night 3-for-3 with the two long balls plus a walk and four RBIs. Austin Nola finished 2-for-4 with a homer, two runs scored and three RBIs. J.P. Crawford was 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs and an RBI. Marco Gonzales picked up the win as he gave up three earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks over five innings. Seattle has not yet announced its starter for tonight’s game.
McKay struggles in loss
Tampa Bay lost 9-3 at home to Seattle Moniday night to drop to 73-53 overall and 33-30 at home. Brendan McKay suffered the loss as he surrendered seven runs (three earned) on three hits over two innings, striking out one and walking three. Tommy Pham helped lead the Rays offense as he finished 1-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs scored. Austin Meadows went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs. Travis d’Arnaud was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. Diego Castillo will be the opener tonight for Tampa Bay as he enters with a 2-6 record, 3.14 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with 56 strikeouts over 48 2/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Seattle
The Mariners are 4-1 in their last five games overall. Seattle is 15-36 in its last 51 road games.
Tampa Bay
The Rays are 14-5 in their last 19 games overall. Tampa Bay is 12-2 in the last 14 Castillo starts.
Prediction:
Tampa Bay hasn’t played all that well in its last four games as it lost to Detroit in a home series opener before finishing that series with two walk-off wins, then was beaten badly by Seattle yesterday. But even with the Mariners playing well lately, the Rays are the clear better team and are due for a strong game. Castillo usually puts Tampa Bay in a good spot early and whatever pitchers Seattle decides to put on the mound are bound to give up some runs to a Rays squad itching for a big offensive performance.
