Mariners’ LeBlanc shelled by Astros in last start

Wade LeBlanc was shelled for seven runs on 10 hits in just 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Astros on Wednesday. LeBlanc gave up three homers in this one — two of them to Marwin Gonzalez — and while he didn’t walk anyone, there were plenty of baserunners on top of the homers. LeBlanc has been a pleasant surprise for the Mariners, but when you throw in the mid-80s to one of the most powerful lineups in baseball, you risk getting hit hard. That’s what happened Wednesday. It ups his season ERA to 3.95 on the year. LeBlanc will try to rebound in his next start against the Rangers on Monday.

Rangers’ Perez escapes with no-decision vs. Diamondbacks

Martin Perez allowed four runs (one earned) on six hits over five innings of work in a no-decision against the D-backs on Monday. Perez coughed up a go-ahead three-run homer to Steven Sousa with two outs in the fifth inning. All three of the runs were unearned thanks to a throwing error by third baseman Adrian Beltre earlier in the frame. The Rangers offense managed to get him off the hook by outscoring Arizona 6-1 over the final four innings. Perez struck out five batters and issued a pair of walks. The 27-year-old lefty is 2-4 with a 6.50 ERA in nine starts. He will face the Orioles at home on Sunday in his next outing.

MLB Betting Trends

Seattle

The Mariners are 1-4 in LeBlanc’s last five road starts.

Texas

The Rangers have won just once in Perez’s last five starts overall.

Prediction:

The over hit in 12 of Perez’s last 16 starts versus the Mariners and in seven of his last eight home outings against Seattle. The over is also 5-2-2 in Perez’s last nine starts overall, is 12-5 in the Rangers’ last 17 games and is 18-7-2 in their last 27 home contests versus a left-handed starter. On the other side, the over is 4-1 in the Mariners’ last five games overall and is 3-1-1 in LeBlanc’s last five starts coming off four days of rest.

The Pick: Mariners/Rangers over 11
