Lynch effective in preseason opener
Backup quarterback Paxton Lynch helped lead the way to a win over his former team in the preseason opener as Seattle earned a 22-14 victory over Denver. Lynch went 11-of-15 through the air for 109 yards plus one touchdown and no interceptions. He also rushed four times for 38 yards and a score. Xavier Turner led the running game with 13 carries for 42 yards. Jazz Ferguson caught four passes for 54 yards and a TD. Jason Meyers was 2-of-3 on field goal attempts with a long of 55 yards. Austin Calitro led the defense with six solo tackles, while Jamar Taylor registered an interception. The Seahawks trailed 6-3 at halftime before scoring 19 straight points in the second half.
New Vikings offense impresses early
Minnesota claimed a 34-25 win in its preseason opener last week at New Orleans. Kirk Cousins was 4-for-4 for 65 yards and a touchdown in his brief time on the field, while Sean Mannion went 7-of-13 for 102 yards and a TD with no interceptions through the air. Mike Boone led the ground game with four carries for 70 yards and a score. Tight end Tyler Conklin led the receivers with two catches for 56, while Olabisi Johnson made two receptions for 35 yards and a touchdown. Cameron Smith paced the defense with seven tackles including five solo. Nate Meadors returned an interception 30 yards for a TD. The Vikings led 27-15 through three quarters and held on from there. Dan Bailey made all four of his extra-point attempts.
NFL Betting Trends
Seattle
The Seahawks are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games. Seattle is 7-2-1 ATS in its last 10 games versus the NFC.
Minnesota
The Vikings are 35-15-1 ATS in their last 51 games on field turf. Minnesota is 36-16-1 ATS in its last 53 home games.
Prediction:
Cousins looked sharp last week and will presumably play a little more this week with the Vikings wanting to get some comfort in their new offense. With Minnesota starters perhaps playing a little more at least on the offensive side of the ball, I like its chances here. Seattle isn’t what it once was and with quarterback Russell Wilson being handled with kid gloves during the preseason, I doubt we see a great offensive effort by the hosts. Give me the points with the Vikings.
