Garcia gives Cards a shot in Game 2 vs. Mets
Not only do baseball fans in Gotham get to take in a single-admission doubleheader today, they receive the added bonus of a pair of premium pitching matchups.
Noah Syndergaard and Carlos Martinez kick off the Mets-Cardinals series, albeit belatedly, at 4:10 p.m. ET. Those two star righties will be followed by Bartolo Colon and Jaime Garcia in the nightcap. Oddsmakers at online sports book Bovada.lv favor the hosts to capture the back end of the twin bill. St. Louis, conversely, enters as a +102 underdog. The over/under run total sits at 7.5.

Fierce rain necessitated the postponement of the opener about 14 hours ago. Following a weekend set in which the bullpen logged 20 2/3 innings, the Cards probably didn’t object vehemently. This evening’s hurlers should feel quite refreshed, though, with both going on five days’ rest.
For the visitors, Garcia simply wants to amend what is becoming a frustrating campaign away from the Gateway City. In eight road starts, the lefty holds a 3-1 record. Other statistics, however, reflect the real story. Garcia’s non-Busch Stadium outings have yielded a 4.40 ERA, to say nothing of a .299 OBA.
Colon, of course, relishes manning the rubber at Citi Field. The 43-year-old owns a career mark of 18-15 with a 1.20 WHIP there. Yet, the Cubs roughed up him last week. Colon surrendered six runs on eight base knocks in just 4 1/3 frames at Wrigley Field.

On the heels of Syndergaard-Martinez, one would expect an uptick in offense at roughly 7:10 p.m. ET. Nevertheless, we don’t envision as much. New York’s bats are already lagging, and it’s fair to question how much success Terry Collins’ club can experience vs. Garcia. After all, the Metropolitans hit an alarming .244 off lefties.
