Cards struggle in all areas
St. Louis fell into a 3-0 NLCS deficit Monday night with an 8-1 loss at Washington. Jose Martinez paced the Cardinals offense as he finished 2-for-4 with a run scored. Paul DeJong was 2-for-3, while Marcell Ozuna ended the game 2-for-4 with a double. Jack Flaherty suffered the loss as he allowed four earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts and two walks over four innings. Dakota Hudson gets the start tonight for St. Louis after giving up four earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts and two walks over 4 2/3 innings of a 5-4 home win over Atlanta in Game 4 of the NLDS.
Strasburg strikes out 12 in win
Washington dominated to the tune of 8-1 Monday night at home over St. Louis to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the best-of-7 NLCS. Stephen Strasburg picked up the win as he gave up one unearned run on seven hits with 12 strikeouts and no walks over seven innings. Victor Robles helped lead the Nationals offensively as he finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored. Howie Kendrick went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs and three RBIs. Anthony Rendon ended the contest 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, two runs scored and an RBI. Patrick Corbin will get the start today for Washington with it being his fifth appearance of the postseason and second start. He gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits with nine strikeouts and five walks over six innings in Game 1 of the NLDS to take the loss in a 6-0 defeat at Los Angeles.
MLB Betting Trends
St. Louis
The Cardinals are 6-0 in their last six games versus a left-handed starter. St. Louis is 8-4 in its last 12 road games.
Washington
The Nationals are 13-3 in the last 16 Corbin home starts. Washington is 4-0 in its last four Tuesday games.
Prediction:
The Cardinals can’t get it going in any department now considering their baserunning and defense wasn’t up to par Monday night, while ace Flaherty didn’t resemble his usual dominant self. While St. Louis has fared well against lefties lately and will have a lineup full of right-handed bats tonight, I still like Corbin and the Nats to finish this off. Corbin is the better pitcher in the matchup and comes in with more experience in big games than Hudson, who struggled in his start versus Atlanta. Get the brooms out tonight.
