Hess wins MLB debut
Baltimore turned to David Hess for the opener of Saturday’s doubleheader and he was solid enough to get the win in the 6-3 triumph. After allowing three earned runs in the top of the first inning, Hess settled down considerably as he did not give up another run the rest of the way while giving up six hits with three strikeouts and no walks over six innings of work. Mychal Givens threw the final 1 2/3 innings to earn the save. Jonathan Schoop hit two solo home runs, while Manny Machado also contributed a solo home run. Mark Trumbo was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs. Chris Archer gave up six earned runs on seven hits over seven innings in the loss, striking out four and walking three.
Blake Snell (4-2, 2.40 ERA) will get the start today for the Rays, while Dylan Bundy (1-5, 5.31) will go for the O’s. Bundy was shelled in his last start, giving up seven earned runs on five hits including four home runs plus three walks while not recording an out in a 15-7 home drubbing against the Royals.
Cron, Smith propel Rays to win
C.J. Cron hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning and went 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs in a 10-3 win Saturday night as Tampa Bay earned the split in the doubleheader. It was the Rays’ first win in the series after two losses. Mallex Smith finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk, two runs and three RBIs. Brad Miller was 2-for-5 with a home run, a triple and two runs. Tampa Bay used seven pitchers in the game with Sergio Romo picking up the win, throwing 1 1/3 perfect innings with two strikeouts. Former Rays hurler Alex Cobb took the loss for Baltimore as he gave up four runs (three earned) on seven hits with five strikeouts and no walks over 5 2/3 innings to drop to 0-5 on the season.
MLB Betting Trends
Tampa Bay
The Rays are 8-3 in their last 11 games following a win. The under is 12-4 in the last 16 Tampa Bay games on a Sunday.
Baltimore
The Orioles are 2-6 in the last eight meetings. The over is 7-1 in the last eight meetings in Baltimore.
Prediction:
Baltimore should have a fresher bullpen for this game and Bundy has been so bad recently that it seems like the perfect time for him to figure it out and put together a fantastic start. He was great in April, but his last three starts have been disastrous. Bet on Baltimore to win its third game in this four-game series.
