Meadows grand slam propels Rays
Tampa Bay cruised to a 7-1 victory Friday night at Baltimore to improve to 76-54 overall and 42-23 on the road. Austin Meadows was 1-for-4 with a grand slam during a seven-run second inning to lead the offense. Mike Zunino finished 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs. Jesus Aguilar went 2-for-3 with two doubles, a walk and a run scored. Trevor Richards threw six shutout innings to post the win as he allowed two hits, struck out five and walked one. Aaron Slegers picked up the save as he gave up one earned run on three hits with no strikeouts or walks over three innings of work. Jose Alvarado will be the opener tonight for the Rays as he enters with a 1-5 record, 4.55 ERA and 1.75 WHIP with 39 strikeouts over 29 2/3 innings pitched.
Villar homers in defeat
Baltimore fell by a count of 7-1 at home Friday night against Tampa Bay to drop to 41-88 overall and 20-46 at home. Jonathan Villar led the Orioles offense as he went 1-for-3 with a solo home run plus a walk. D.J. Stewart finished 2-for-4 with a double. Anthony Santander was 1-for-3 with a double. Ty Blach suffered the loss as he allowed seven earned runs on nine hits with two strikeouts and two walks over four innings of work. John Means will start tonight for Baltimore as he comes in with an 8-9 record, 3.75 ERA and 1.21 WHP with 88 strikeouts over 110 1/3 innings.

Prediction:
Baseball is an unpredictable sport as showcased by Detroit’s historic win at Houston earlier this week. Despite the Rays having their way with the Orioles this series and much of the season, this could be a good spot for Baltimore. If the hosts show patience early at the plate, they could take advantage of the erratic Alvarado and jump out to an early lead. Means has regressed lately, but he’s still having a solid rookie campaign and should keep the O’s in the game. This is the best shot Baltimore has to avoid a four-game home sweep and I’m taking my chances in this spot.
